I just finished reading a blog post that has left me sitting here scratching my head (figuratively speaking). I’m not sure what to think about it – do I agree with what Seth Godin said or do I disagree with him? I’m honestly not sure. I think I’m feeling a little confused.
Up until I read this post, I thought I was a pretty authentic person. I’m genuine and real. I’m an open book for the most part – there are some things that don’t get shared online. Isn’t that what being authentic is – genuine and real? I had to go look up the definition just to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood the meaning somewhere over the years. And yep, it still means genuine and real.
So, the part that really confused me was when he said:
When you tell me that it would be authentic for you to do x, y or z, my first reaction is that nothing you do is truly authentic, it’s all part of a long-term strategy for how you’ll make an impact in the world.
So, he’s saying that not one of us are truly authentic in what we do? It’s all about the impact we’ll make in the world?
Can’t we be authentic and make an impact in the world?
