mom-masterminders-july-2010I’m a total people person. Social butterfly to be exact. I love being around people – the more the merrier (just like in the pic to the left – that’s me in the front with the gray shirt with several Mom Masterminds Members in Canada this past July).

Kind of weird (me being a people person) considering I’m shy until you get ot know me! lol

So, one of the hardest things when I left my Optometrist Assistant position 4 1/2 years ago was leaving the people behind. I loved the variety of people I met on a daily basis.

Working from home was kind of a shock to my system back in the beginning! I found myself ‘shut’ up in my apartment with nothing but the TV, my computer and of course my son when he wasn’t in school. I learned real fast there was only so much socializing I could do with myself (yes, as in talking to myself!) and a 7 year old (that’s how old Caleb was when I first started working from home).

Because I am a social person I had to start making socializing a priority. I had to make myself get dressed (yes I’m admitting that working from home has given me the freedom to be ‘lazy’ and stay in my pajamas all day) and meet up with friends on a regular time line otherwise I would start getting depressed and hating the one thing I was loving so much – working from home!

Over the last 4 1/2 years I’ve still had to keep regular social times but with Facebook and Twitter I can also get some ‘social’ activity on a daily basis. Sure, virtual social time isn’t the same as in person but it helps me keep the blues away. And I have some really cool online peeps that I ‘hang around with’ 🙂

tish-angie-danielle-nams-3-january-2010Back in January of this year I was introduced to a ‘live business event’ when I attended NAMS 3 in Atlanta, Georgia. That’s not only a great way to learn business related information that can help grow your business but it’s also a great way to get a good dose of social interaction. I had a great time meeting some of the people I had known online for a couple years.

And even more than that I had a blast! Just look at the pic to the right of me (in the pink) with Angie and Danielle. The pic alone shows how much fun we were having and you can see by the big grin/laugh on my face that I was having a good ole time!

Are you a people person? If so how has working at home affected you?
