To be successful in business it requires several factors. One factor and probably the most important is your attitude. You will be faced with situations over and over again that test your patience, frustrate you, overwhelm you and sometimes just plain flat out make you want to throw in the towel. Your attitude and remaining positive is going to keep you going when you think you can’t.

Having a positive attitude isn’t about always seeing a silver lining. Sure if you have the disposition to always see a silver lining even when the darkest clouds are hanging overhead then that’s great and nothing will ever get you down. But let’s be realistic here. Being an entrepreneur and running your own business is a huge responsibility. At some point even the most positive of people will have a situation that they aren’t going to see a silver lining in. That’s ok. It’s also about looking at each situation and finding the possibilities. Again when looking at each situation and its possibilities you might not see a silver lining but if you stop and think about the fact that these situations will benefit your business suddenly you start feeling positive again.

For example let’s say that you want to start article marketing but the thought of writing articles is daunting. And then you think about all the different article directories you need to submit them to and all the different ‘rules’ each site has about submissions it becomes even more of a daunting and overwhelming task. There’s not a silver lining in that situation until you stop and think about how article marketing has the possibility of so many positives in your business – more traffic to your site, leverages you as an expert, provides content on a certain topic, etc.

So why do business owners make tough decisions all the while trying to remain positive? It’s because they love what they do. For most it’s not about the money. Sure we need our businesses to bring in income to pay the bills but it’s so much more than that. If it were just about the money many people would have thrown in the towel when they dealt with that first unsatisfied customer that tested their patience and wills.

A lot of people go into business because it’s about making a difference. They want to make a difference in not only their lives but in their family’s lives as well and even in the lives of others that their business reaches. These dynamics play a part in your attitude towards your business when things aren’t going to well and it’s hard to keep a positive attitude and you find yourself wondering if it’s time to give up or dig your heels in.

If you have a positive attitude and a good frame of mind you will dig your heels in and keep plugging along. When tough times hit remain calm, stay positive, step back and reevaluate your priorities. You will do what it takes to keep your product or service out there so it doesn’t ‘vanish’ into thin air if you’re positive and believe in your product or service!

Once you dig your heels in and keep plugging along people will see your positiveness and feel the love you have for your business. A positive attitude isn’t going to just motivate you – soon you’ll find that ‘staff’ (if you have any) and your family are stepping up to the plate to pitch in wherever they can. Maybe it will be something as easy as your family cooking dinner so you can devote a little extra time to some business tasks during the week but in exchange you’ll have to devote yourself 100% to family time on the weekends.

If you have ‘staff’ that works for you you’ll find that a positive attitude towards them and showing appreciation for them will have them going above and beyond what they’re called to do. Showing your appreicaiotn doesn’t have to always mean more money. Something as simple as a thank you card telling them what a great job they are doing can be sufficient.

It’s not always easy being positive, as previously mentioned but it certainly helps make things bearable. You’ll be able to meet challenges and demands with a smile on your face.

When it comes to business success loving what you do and staying positive plays a major role in it.
